Assistant Professor - Mathematics
The Universities of Canada in Egypt hosting University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in Egypt invites applicants at the rank of Full Time Assistant Professor with specialization in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences starting June 2025. Primary areas of teaching will be in Calculus, Discrete Math, and Differential Equations courses.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Teaching and learning:
- Transfer knowledge to students and teaching assistants including but not limited to practical skills, methods and techniques.
- Ensure that the teaching content and methods of delivery are in accordance with faculty guidelines and respond to issues relating to staff and student needs.
- Develop innovative approaches to course delivery and ensure that different teaching components and delivery comply with the quality and educational standards and regulations of the department.
- Promote debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and problem solving.
- Supervise student projects and research, as well as, mentor their academic progress.
- Set, mark and fairly assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students.
Research and Scholarly Endeavors
- Lead and co-ordinate research activity in the field including determining relevant research objectives, leading research and collaborative partnerships with other educational institutions or other bodies and preparing and submitting proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and accreditation purposes.
- Carry out independent or contribute to research work and publications or disseminate research findings using other appropriate media.
- Seek practical application of research findings in line with the vision of the university.
University Services
- Chair or contribute to committees work and participate in school/department decision-making and governance.
- Exemplify the work of the university and department both nationally and internationally.
- Dealing with referred issues for students within their own educational programs.
- Act as a line manager, supervising the work of others, for example in research teams, projects, or as M.Sc., PhD supervisor when required.
- Mentor, appraise and advise staff on personal and career development plans.
- Foster innovation and inter-disciplinary team working.
- Other duties as may be required for the department and assigned by the department head.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. Degree from a recognized University (Preferably Canadian and/or North American institutions)
- A record of excellence in teaching and scholarly output appropriate to career stage
- Excellent command of English language
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Excellent teamwork and organizational skills
- Compassionate, positive, and professional attitude
- High level of responsibility and commitment.
- Ability to take and implement initiatives contributing to the development of the school.
- Ability to balance the competing pressures of teaching, scholarship, research, knowledge transfer, administrative demands and deadlines.
